Description

Dominate the world. One blob at a time. World domination isn't a very fashionable ambition these days, but that doesn't mean you can't pretend. Strategery is a battle between your pegs and the green, orange, blue, and red blobs that dare to stand in your way. It's also a little bit of App Store history. Strategery first launched in 2008, back when the App Store was barely a few months old. Macworld named it the Best Strategy Game of 2009. Slate called it their latest iPhone gaming habit. Daring Fireball said the gameplay had a great feel. And a Macworld reviewer named Lex Friedman wrote that there was no game he played on his iPhone more. That reviewer now makes Strategery. Life is funny. HOW IT'S PLAYED The world is made of blobs. Every blob holds pegs — your pegs, ideally. Pick a blob you own, point at a neighboring blob you don't, and roll. More pegs, better odds. Win the roll and the blob changes color. Lose it and, well, you still have your other blobs. Keep going until the whole map is your color and everyone else is looking for the rematch button. Your turn, your dice, your questionable decisions Bigger stacks of pegs win more rolls. Usually. Every blob you hold earns you more pegs Last color standing dominates the world. Politely. THREE WAYS TO CONQUER Solo: Play against the computer. It has no friends, no feelings, and no plans this evening. It will happily lose to you all night. (Or not. You choose how clever it gets to be.) Online: Play against your friends. Take turns from wherever you are. A push notification lets you know when it's your move, or when someone has done something regrettable to your blobs. Pass and play: One phone, one couch, several rivals. Hand it over, let them try, and try not to gloat. CLASSIC OR CHAOS Classic is the game you remember: dice, blobs, and your own poor judgment. Chaos adds starred blobs. Capture one and the wheel spins. Your conquest has consequences. Either way, you pick how much world there is to dominate. A WAR WITH NO CASUALTIES Blobs don't bleed. Pegs don't feel pain. Nothing explodes, nobody gets hurt, and the only thing that ever gets conquered is a colorful shape on a map. Somebody's pride may be wounded when you take their last blob, but that's between the two of you. For iPhone and iPad. Contains no violence, several dice, a healthy number of blobs, and a reasonable amount of whimsy. Strategery was originally designed by Sumul Shah, Courtland Idstrom, and Peter Ju. This version comes from Lex Friedman, who is one person and would be delighted by a rating or review. It's not strategy. It's Strategery.

The classic Strategery broke in 27 beta so I assumed it was los to time. But thanks to Lex, it lives again. Great, fast paced game. There are options to play the old way but also lots of new stuff. Fantastic app, an all time iOS game!!
  • Need a “classic” mode

This update suddenly replaced my daily favorite game with a disorienting and garish looking UI. Please provide a way to get the old app, or to get the same UI and playability in a Classic mode.
  • A downward, childish update. Old version much better

This update is horrible.. I’ll uninstall… all the upgrades just detract from the core of the game… more “user experience “ but more of poor thing is not better!
  • Over 10 years and now a terrific refresh

This is my go to game for the last 10 years. It’s quick easy to play, but it’s pretty complex when you really get to play. The new refresh is outstanding thank you so much for making this such a great diversion.
  • Please bring back original as an option.

The maps were better, the water was not a thing, and the replacement of armies was the same for all players. This new version is unplayable for me.
  • Please bring back the hex look and settings

Many others have mentioned this as well but I’ve been playing this game for decades. This new updates is a huge regression in the maps, and troop placement is brutal. Please bring back the old look even if it’s behind an option!
  • Best “new” game

  • The new version is terrible

Everything that made the original so compelling has been sacrificed in this unwelcome update. Loud, garish, inelegant, awful maps and for all the world looking like it was AI-vibecoded by a hyperactive child. Oh, and the update deleted my stats from over 12,000 games. A tragedy. Please give us the option of using the old version.

My phone auto updated today and the beloved Strategery game has been replaced with whatever this thing is. Gone is every element that made it Strategery - wonderful design, game play, pass and play, etc. my first thought is I had missed an April fools post but noticed it was still September. Thankfully my iPad does not do auto updates and I can play the real Strategery until the iPad dies. I have mad respect for Lex and his works. I cannot fathom why this change could have ever been considered a good idea. To radically pivot from such a classic and well designed game into a weird comic vibe coded thing that my poor phone is stuck with. One can only hope Strategery is restored and a new game from this code base with a totally different name and a new purchase SKU is created for those that want a weird comic book designed thing that seems amazing but is not and can never be Strategery. This is likely to be another solid chapter written in that book of business lessons of what not to do to your product and decimate the community’s good will for a wonderful and successful product.
