Description

Noir is a Safari extension that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. It makes browsing the web at night so much better. With Noir, you won’t be blinded by bright websites ever again. And the results look great too. Noir generates a custom dark style for each website you visit, based on the colors that are used on a page. You won’t even notice this happening in the background – that’s how fast it is – but you’ll certainly appreciate the end result: a beautiful dark mode tailored for each website, where contrast is preserved and highlights still pop. And with over 20 built-in themes and the ability to create your own, you can customize the results exactly the way you want. Noir works with any website you visit in Safari, automatically. By default, Noir is linked to your device’s Dark Mode, so websites will only go dark when you want them to. But you can easily customize this to your liking, even per website. Only want to use Noir on just a few specific websites? Sure thing! Disable Noir on some websites? No problem! The app feels right at home on your device. It is a Safari extension, which means there’s no need to manually activate it every time you load a new page. The app also tightly integrates with system features such as Shortcuts, Focus Filters, and Widgets to fully integrate Noir in all your workflows. And your settings are automatically synced to all your devices using iCloud. And just as importantly, Noir takes your privacy seriously: it doesn’t collect any of your browsing data. Period. Noir is made by an indie developer. It does not include any subscriptions or ads. Buy Noir once, use it forever. Notes: • Found a website where Noir’s dark mode doesn’t look just right? Let me know by reporting it. The app will be frequently updated to address issues that are reported. Privacy Policy: • The Noir extension requires access to the websites you visit to analyze the existing style of the page and to override it with Noir's dark style. • Noir never collects your browsing data. The only data Noir ‘collects’ are your settings, and those will never leave your device or iCloud account. • You can read Noir’s full Privacy Policy at https://getnoir.app/privacypolicy

  • Great App for those that wakeup early morning!

Your app should be incorperated in Safari. For me I like the idea of dark mode on websites that usually flash/pop white backgrounds especially early mornings without any room lights on. Give it a try and see what you think.

I put off downloading this for a bit, because paying to darken websites seemed pointless, but I gave in and this has been a lifesaver for doing homework/coding at night. I recommend it if you are a student and referencing websites at night.

I read A LOT of websites in the dark and Noir is an eye-saver for me. It. Just. Works.

Works really well and usually looks almost native. However, I would like the option to choose text color (sometimes text feels almost unreadable) and to choose individual colors, not just the theme. For example, some websites natively have a contrasting color for a page of text and the background - noir automatically adjusts this, but sometimes the background feels like a weird color compared to the text bubble. I’d like to be able to choose this and have slightly more customization. Other than that, this is an amazing app.

Not sure the issue, but it doesn’t seem to update from the App Store. I’ve tried signing out and restarting.. No dice. I removed it completely and now I can’t reinstall it.

He’s not keeping the help guides current = waste of time trying to resolve my problem.
  • It Works Well

I’ve used dark reader for years on other browsers but decided to try Noir rather than dark reader on Safari. It’s not perfect, but it works well. I wasn’t expecting to see it in Little Snitch Mini for making web requests, which apparently it does sometimes to help with analyzing the page.

I’ve had this for like 3 years and it’s worked great.
  • A game changer for Canvas

I’ve been needlessly suffering for about a year with Canvas on my Mac Min M4, with its brightness trying to burn my learning into my retinas. Canvas does not offer any dark mode. Well, I finally had enough and found this simple extension that solved the problem. Now I can go vampire mode and the difference is night and day! I couldn’t give this 5 stars fast enough.
  • Update within past couple of months broke something

I’ve been using Noir for several years, and have really enjoyed using it. I still do; however, an update to this extension (macOS) a few months ago broke its ability to detect whether a site uses a built-in dark mode or not: now, every site visited that is not already marked as being “override detected dark mode” shows that a built-in dark mode was detected, even when that site does not, in fact, have one. I have reported this issue through the in-extension mechanism, with no response and no change to the extension’s behavior. The app seems to be still under active development, so I feel compelled to point out this issue in a more public way.
