I’ve been using this app for about 3 years now. When I first got it I only paid 29.99 for a whole year, but now it’s 150 for a year. It is a ridiculous amount to have increased for premium and that’s because I don’t even use it. I would have to pay the 150 a year for all the basic things I’ve always done with this app. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
  • A little glitch

I wish I could give this app all 4 or 5 stars, but I can’t and my reason is below. Just a disclaimer: This is not a pure complaint, just a heads up for the programmers that I think needs to be made aware. While the voices are great and everything else is wonderful, I’ve noticed a serious problem as the app reads one of my downloaded PDF files. There are no humanly made errors in my PDF that this program is reading. For example, I have a very long book that I am personally writing, and to catch any errors I may have missed as I was writing along and making honest and human mistakes, this reading program is doing something extremely weird. It’s not speaking the words that I wrote. I’m looking at the words it’s reading and it’s not lining up with the reading program. HOWEVER, when you go into another setting to read along with it- not being inside the PDF file setting, the words are shifting into an incorrect letter that is not apart of the word, and it’s clearly not what I wrote, so there’s something weird going on. As its program is designed to do, its reading this weird error. I have checked my pdf file on this program and the words are not errored with misspelling or bad grammar created by me. Maybe a run on sentence or so…. Okay, quite a lot of them, but that’s minimal and what I’m honestly trying to find. So yes, this program does help with that. BUT, as an example my PDF will have the physical word- let’s use the word “the”, clear as day for me to see on the file that I know is correct. But when you switch it out of PDF format “the” is now “jhe”. Or “book” is “oook”, it will even break up words, like “author” into “Au the rot ” or something like that. It’s just weird and I cannot keep listening to this. Literally driving me absolutely insane. I have tried deleting this file and reuploading it but nothing is changing so it’s gotta be the programming or something. AGAIN, this is not a real complaint, just a heads up to the programmers that this needs looked at. I like this app, I really do, but if I’m going to be paying for this then I would like it to work the way it’s supposed to. Please and thank you, but until it’s fixed, I’m not using this app nor will I pay for it after this for a while. I will be back eventually to give the programmers time to fix it but for now I shall say goodbye. Thank you for the free trial, this app HAS improved tremendously over the last few years, has a few glitches too but all in all that’s the only problem I presently have. Thank you all and have a wonderful time :)
  • BEWARE!! They will charge you even if you cancel

Terrible experience. I started a free trial, didn’t like it as the voice was very unnatural, cancelled my trial. Within the app it said that my trial was cancelled and I would not be charged. Two days later I was charged $140, and when I contacted Speechify, they said they couldn’t refund and I would have to contact Apple in order to get a refund.
  • Terrible UI

I buy this because there isn’t a competitor but the UI is awful. Constantly breaks down or stops. Doesn’t allow you to skip through the tutorial when you sign on from a new device. Doesn’t cache so that it can delta so that it can keep going when you’re in an elevator. Has trouble processing documents randomly.
  • Glad I didn’t get premium

Thank you to past reviewers who brought to light that after paying for premium they cap the amount of words you can listen to from the premium voices. I was seriously considering getting premium because the free voices are difficult to listen to, but as it turns out paying for premium doesn’t actually solve this issue. I am not going to pay over a hundred dollars for a service that I can’t use. Very odd choice on the part of the company, but after reading the terms and conditions part 6.3, it seems that speechify thinks that a legitimate business model.

I love this book because it has adventure and magic and other cool stuff like that. (I’m a young girl leaving this review on my dad’s account, but he thinks this book is amazing and fun and gives you the feel-goods all over, which is why he shared it with me). :-)
