Now, I’m a long time user and fan of most spreadsheet software, even if I don’t use it. But, I’ve recently stopped using a computer for unavoidable reasons I won’t go into. (What is the point of a larger bulkier computer when I’m basically told I have to carry one with me, that supersedes the base purpose me having a phone in the first place?) Now, I use(d) Excel primarily, and was told nigh endlessly about how good Sheets was. So, I have been working prior to switching to a mobile as my work station (on a paying job, no less) in Sheets. Only to find out, that none of the actual infrastructure that allows for any legitimate complexity (aside from formulas), is accessible. I can’t access any context menus, development, design, tables, data validation (which is paramount when dealing with simultaneously non-numerical and complex hierarchical Data). My work and experiences, suffer to the point, that I may as well know nothing more than ‘box make math’. Any real work is limited to manually parsing everything from the ground up. While you can make ‘Filters’, which is the analog to Tables (because all table have to be ‘Pivot’ style now), listing functions via the function icon to the data entry field while editing a cell, and the tool(?) bar host only some basic formatting functionality, is not viable for anyone who actually knows enough to use spreadsheet software. I can’t make named ranges for ease of reference, limit acceptable information within a cell or range, use scripts to facilitate operations not covered in functions, create menus, and other fun and useful things. What is the point of a mobile Sheets App as anything more than a viewer for files created on other mediums like Desktops and Laptops? Currently, I’m really put off by Google products, leaning into ease of use over functionality. I don’t mind ease of use. I don’t even mind the convenience. But, this App is ‘NOT’ Google Sheets. It is at -best- ‘Google Sheets Lite’ which is basically no different in functional accessibility than a PDF reader. At -Worst- It’s a misleading representation of software, that rides on its name to lure people into using it, instead of the complex system it portends to be. I did try accessing the sheets on my phone’s browser, even requesting desktop websites in hopes of proper functionality. No luck there, either. All relevant solutions with regard to my situation call for a laptop or desktop exclusively. I am profoundly disappointed in my experience here, and currently wouldn’t recommend this to anyone considering it for convenience, unless their experience and needs were novice. Even then, I would warn them. Hopefully, these are things that can and will be addressed and corrected for. As it is, Sheets on mobile devices appears by all accounts to be a waste of time. Please tell me there’s hope in the future. I’m losing money because your app lacks functionality.

Every time I try and the comment feature on iPhone the whole app crashes. I can’t insert a comment or let alone read comments left by other editors of the sheet.

Opening password protected xlsx files was working fine until very recently. Still works on PC but on the iPhone I now get “Can’t open this file right now”. Non password protected xlsx open fine.
  • IPad Pro Version - Charts and Pivot Tables???

This is a super frustrating experience for ipad users. The biggest issue is that there’s no way to select or edit your data for charts — it kept picking a column at random and building a basic chart with ‘count’, with no way to select multiple axes, values (a lot of what you’d expect from a pivot table / chart tool). Even with the data highlighted, it kept generating a random chart that was useless and non-modifiable. It’s also an unintuitive UI compared to the browser version, and I often end up copying and pasting instead of auto-fill because it’s so janky on an iPad. It’s been unresponsive with my magic keyboard and trackpad often, not recognizing typing or clicks.

I use the sheets app constantly especially when I’m away from my computer and in the last week it started crashing almost immediately after opening the app, and then it also bricks my ENTIRE phone with it so I have to wait like 5 minutes before my phone is functional again. I installed yesterday’s updates and they did nothing to fix the problem

I have to open on a computer or use the web version to edit or create a drop down list in a cell. Why even have the app if you can’t use sheets how you could on the web. Terrible .. Hire new developers.

I use these to track workouts in a simple format but why am I am now constantly having an issue where if I swap apps or lock my phone and go back to sheets the app freezes, hangs on a log in, and show me older versions of the sheet. I have to constantly close the app completely, sometimes once sometimes several times for it to log in correctly and show me my current version of the sheet.

It was still a pretty good app since the I started using it. Then Google improved it and added new features over time. Since I use it to calculate so much data sometimes it takes a minute to load or sometimes it crashes. This is still an excellent app. I use it on my iphone and macbook pro.
