you have to place a marker pixel perfect to get a route to not create a straight line over terrain in a nonsensical way in any navigation mode. such a waste of time on a touchscreen
  • What’s all the hype?

So I decided to make a quick download and try out the free trial for premium for my hike out chaffin creek in the bitterroot’s in Montana today. I always use AllTrails or OnX but had to delete OnX due to storage and AllTrails new update doesn’t allow offline maps on the free version (used to have little loophole if always get around by clicking on navigate and toggling on the map over to my location). Anyway, the trail for chaffin creek today is completely off so much so when we were wondering which way to go, Gaia led us even farther off trail. On the map the trail is a straight line in one spot which was weird in itself but I went for it. We went way off into thick brush *on the other side of the creek. Yes, we missed the creek crossing terribly so I tried AllTrails and got a glimpse of our location and the trail and realized how far off we were. Really don’t understand all the hype. The app just waisted 30 min of bushwhacking. The current location arrow is also not accurate as it constantly jumps around misleading you.
  • Used to be great..😢

Used to love this app. Have used it for my work, for climbing/mountaineering. Has worked great for years. But now it crashes constantly and never seems to be able to load my saved tracks or load layers. Several times recently it has stopped working while in the field well outside of service. Also find that the gps location and tracking is way off course. What gives?
  • Outside login is useless

Has happened multiple times now: I am logged out because of an update or some other random background reason, need Gaia gps and since no cell, no login possible, no maps. Bypass is not always available. Also, the default public thing is sketchy at best.
  • Not reliable in airplane mode

I’ve been using Gaia for years. Lately, it seems to really be unhappy in airplane mode — which is my main use of the app when I’m in the backcountry. Nearly every action — launching the app, adding a layer, changing a layer opacity, adding a waypoint, viewing a saved track — causes a minutes-long delay. That’s if the app doesn’t crash altogether. Not fun when I’m off trail, halfway up a mountain, and trying to figure out where I’m going.

You’re better off using your iPhone!
  • No longer any good

I paid for it, used it for years and now can’t even sign on without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Outside bought them and immediately turned into 1900s tech. Downloading OnX after I post this, not wasting anymore time on this leap backwards.
  • Rip Off

The app is ok but i think Alltrails is much better and easier to use. The rip off is they bundled my subscription with stupid outside magazine without me knowing. they said it was to improve the app! when my auto subscription came up i tried to cancel the outside subscription but they said it was too late. i did it 16 days after the auto renew date but the deadline (which is stated nowhere) is 14 days. what a joke . very bad customer service. i cancelled my subscription. i will just use Alltrails.
  • Used to be great

This app used to be great but has become more expensive and less usable over time. It’s super slow to open when you have a weak cell signal and resets the map location all the time if you are opening and closing the app repeatedly.
  • Absolutely do not download!
